Living Economies Educational Trust respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through our website, livingeconomies.nz, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have. We handle your information in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

What information we collect

We collect personal information from you, including information about your:

name contact information interactions with us billing or purchase information

We also collect some information automatically when you visit the site, such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you view, through website analytics. This helps us understand how the site is used and is not used to identify you personally.

When you pay by card or wallet, your card details are entered into and handled by Stripe, our payment provider. We do not see or store your full card details on our website. If you pay by bank transfer, we see your payment reference and the fact that a transfer was made.

Why we collect your information

We collect and use your personal information in order to:

process and post your orders, take and reconcile your payment, including matching bank transfer references, respond when you contact us send you order confirmations and updates, including bank transfer instructions, send you occasional updates about the trust, where you have signed up to receive them, understand how our website is used, through analytics, so we can improve it

We use your information only for these purposes or for purposes you would reasonably expect, and we do not sell it.

Cookies and analytics

Our site uses cookies, which are small files stored on your device, to help the site work and to measure how it is used. We use Google Analytics, through the MonsterInsights plugin, to collect anonymous statistics about visits, such as which pages are popular and how people find us. We also use RankMath, which assists with search engine optimisation and may collect some related data. You can set your browser to refuse cookies or to alert you when cookies are being used, though some parts of the site may not work as well if you do.

Who we share your information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the providers we need to run the shop and the trust, and only as far as they need it to do their job. These include Stripe, which processes card and wallet payments, Google Analytics, which provides website statistics, our email and customer relationship tools, which we use to send order emails and updates, and postal or courier services, which we use to send you your books. Some of these providers, including Stripe and Google, store data on servers outside New Zealand. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

How long we keep your information

We keep your general contact information for two years, at which point we securely destroy it by securely erasing any digital information. We keep order and financial records for seven years, to meet Inland Revenue requirements, after which they are also securely destroyed.

Keeping your information safe

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse, and unauthorised access, including using secure connections on the website and trusted payment providers. No system is completely secure, but we work to keep your information safe.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of any personal information we hold about you, and to ask for it to be corrected if you think it is wrong. You can also ask us to stop sending you updates at any time. Children

Our shop and services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us their information, please contact us and we will remove it.

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the effective date at the top.

If you are not happy with how we have handled your personal information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, who can be reached through their website at privacy.org.nz or by phone on 0800 803 909.
